Reasons why I choose Gateway Health as my NDIS provider.

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is available here.

The NDIS is the new way of providing support for people with disability, their families and carers in Australia. The NDIS gives you choice and control over how, when and where funded supports are provided to help you achieve your goals and enjoy your life.

How our services and supports make a difference:

Meet James

James muscles webMeet James! Wow check out those muscles. James has a goal of one day becoming a body builder and has learnt that the key to gaining good muscle tone is through hard work in the gym, engaging a personal trainer and learning to choose healthy food options. James first engaged in the Gateway Health Community Inclusion program in 2011. The Community Inclusion program listens to the needs of individuals and provides a range of leisure, learning and lifestyle programs and supports for people with disabilities and their families. The program has supported James to achieve his goals. Today James is an active member in his community. He participates in a weekly cooking class and has been engaged with The Centre to complete the Certificate 1 in transitional education. This certificate focuses on personal development, sport/recreation and resume writing and information technology. Upon completion it will be a stepping stone to help James with future employment or further education. James knows that it is important to have time out to catch up with mates, he enjoys Boy’s Nights Out- playing pool and listening to the jukebox. He is very proud of his group of friends that get together through the program, especially the friendships, support and bonds that have been created. The boys visit each other’s places and have met other friends and family which provides activities and social connections outside of paid supports. James is also supported to attend events such as going to the AFL football, especially when Richmond is playing and wins! WWE wrestling was next on the list of things that James and others in the group were interested in, so they journeyed to Melbourne to the WWE wrestling at Rod Laver arena. Gateway Health has also supported James with other activities that he is interested in such as ten pin bowling and going to watch a body building competition. Staff have also assisted and motivated James to keep up his laps at the swimming pool. James also enjoys being an active volunteer at Gateway Health, participating on job interview panels for Community Inclusion support workers. If you are watching the Commonwealth Games torch travel through James cooking webWangaratta you just might see James carrying it! He was nominated to carry the torch and he cannot believe that his dream is going to come true! In the future James would like to live independently and believes that what he does through Gateway Health gives him the skills and confidence for this to become a reality. He would like to be able to support himself through setting up his own window cleaning business. James thinks that other people should come to Gateway Health so they can learn how to cook, have fun in programs and get support to achieve goals. Facts about James: Favourite food: Roast beef and gravy. Favourite music: Hard rock, heavy metal. Favourite famous person: Arnold Schwarzenegger. Favourite movies: Action and horror. Likes to dye his hair and keep up with the trends.
